3/23/2020 Governor Whitmer enacted an executive order to Shelter in Place with "Stay Home, Stay Safe." This requires that all non-essential businesses be closed and takes effect on March 24, 2020 at 12:01 am, and continues through April 13, 2020 at 11:59 pm Veterinary Services are considered essential and at this time we are remaining open to care for ill or convalescing pets. This is by appointment only with added physical distancing requirements enforced. Please, no Walk-Ins. You will be told to return to your car and call first. Our phone lines have been very busy and you may have to make multiple attempts to reach us.
Due to Covid-19, Hartel Veterinary Hospital is doing its best to try to keep up with the ever-changing recommendations from the State, Local and Federal Government health professionals and the veterinary community’s governing bodies as well, including following the best practices according to the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
While we remain open at the time of this writing (3/21/2020)
we are initiating the following protocols in an effort to limit contact between
individuals as recommended by health and government officials. This is not only
to protect ourselves but our clients and patients as well.
We are limiting appointments and surgeries so that we can focus on more urgent patients and their needs. To that end, we are rescheduling most routine appointments and elective surgeries. Exceptions to the above may include:
Maintaining vaccination schedules for puppy and kitten boosters so that these patients will gain protection against important disease and parasites to which they are particularly susceptible.
Examining and/or weighing pets as necessary so that they can continue to receive necessary medications
Recheck and follow up exams for patients that need them.
As well as seeing emergent patients (as determined on a case-by-case basis) we are trying to accomplish as much as we can via telemedicine and email for our established clients and patients. We are also able to refill medications as warranted either here at the office or via our online store.
the unlikely event that we will be required to close completely, rest assured
we are doing everything possible to maintain continuity of phone service to one
or more of us.
