Probably one of the first things you'll notice at Hartel Veterinary Hospital is that we run a very small, tight office. I am the owner and veterinarian who you generally are going to see when you make an appointment. I have practiced veterinary medicine for over 30 years, since my graduation from Michigan State University in 1980.
I opened this office in 1985 and have continued at this location since then. I have two full time employees: Kathy Schneider, licensed veterinary technician and Amber Rathburn, the office manager and also a licensed veterinarian technician . Kathy has been with me since 1988 and Amber started in April of 2015. Those of you who know Karen realize we could never replace her when she retired, but Amber has risen to the occasion and brings a fresh outlook and attitude to our office; we are thrilled to have her here.
We are a little old fashioned here: we believe that phone calls are better answered by a person. When you call for an appointment, you will be talking to one of three individuals; Amber, Kathy or myself. We will give you answers to your questions; if we don't know, we will find out, and if we can't find out, we will recommend you to someone who hopefully can. We believe that a patient's medical condition can be followed extremely well by a small, dedicated staff who know the client and the patient by sight. If I do not feel I am capable of giving your pet the care it requires, I will never hesitate to recommend referral to a specialist. If you are just not happy with the progress your pet is making, I will be happy to arrange a referral at your request. We should be partners in your pet's health and everyone at this office strives to be just that.
